History
On March 16, 2004, the Taché Municipal Council unanimously adopted the Library project and provided the necessary funding in their 2004 budget. The first Library Board for the Bibliothèque Taché Library was nominated in August 2004 and a Librarian was hired in December 2004.
A formal partnership agreement with Seine River School Division was subsequently signed and the Library opened its doors on the first of March 2005.By March 2006, one year after opening, the Library had 689 patrons registered and a total of 5,046 books.
By June 2006, the Library board was expressing concern over future expansion requirements and the RM Council member Mr. Claude Lapointe brought these concerns forward at his Council meeting. Two years after start up, at the April 2007, the RM Council member Mr. Ross Deschambault was asking on behalf of the Municipal Council regarding a satellite branch in Landmark.
The Library Board advised the issue had been researched and was “on hold” for the time being. Statistics regarding membership information by location would be gathered etc. The Board felt they needed to stabilize the current location before expanding to another. In October 2007 a 3 year strategic plan was developed focused on space issues, programs and services.
As a result of this planning session the board started developing a survey in November 2007 which was finalized and approved by the RM of Taché for distribution with the June 2008 property tax invoices. June 2008 a letter was written to the RM of Taché, advising council that space had become an issue and it was imperative that the R.M. starts planning for the expansion immediately. By the end of 2008 the collection of books had increased to 13744 and the number of patrons had grown to 1455, broken down as follows:
March 2009, a partnership with Ste. Geneviève Community Centre started by holding a mini-library every two weeks. The residents really appreciate this service and we continue this outreach program still today.
The library facilities committee met with the R.M. of Taché CAO, Mr. Dan Poersch, in April 2009 to discuss several issues. An invitation was made for all councilors to attend a meeting held on May 19th at the Public Library. July 2009 the Library Board reviewed the 2007 strategic plan to determine what had been accomplished and what had not, helping in determining next steps.
Currently the public library owns 41,602 books and has 4,216 clients.
